Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed confidence that the country will overcome its security challenges, assuring citizens that President Bola Tinubu is working tirelessly to restore peace and safeguard lives and property across the nation.

Speaking during an engagement with traditional rulers in Ado Ekiti on Saturday as part of her one-day working visit to Ekiti State, the First Lady acknowledged the growing concerns over kidnappings, banditry and killings in parts of the country, describing the situation as deeply troubling.

Responding to calls by traditional rulers for stricter anti-kidnapping laws and the expedited creation of state police, Mrs Tinubu said the Federal Government was implementing robust security measures and strengthening international partnerships to combat insecurity.

She revealed that Nigeria is collaborating with countries such as the United States and other developed nations to tackle terrorism, kidnapping and violent crimes, while also pursuing internal security strategies aimed at dismantling criminal networks operating across the country.

“President Tinubu has entered into partnerships with developed countries and is taking internal security measures to stop those terrorising the nation and fuelling killings and kidnappings across different regions,” she said.

The First Lady noted that some of those involved in criminal activities were not Nigerians, adding that the country would ultimately triumph over its security challenges.

“No matter what happens, we shall overcome. Nigeria is too great to be intimidated. Challenges will come, but together we can overcome them. The President is working round the clock to resolve these issues,” she stated.

She urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and prayerful, stressing that faith and collective efforts were essential in overcoming national challenges.

Beyond security, Mrs Tinubu highlighted several interventions under her Renewed Hope Initiative, including the construction of an ultra-modern Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre at Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, to enhance digital learning among youths.

She also disclosed that the initiative had endowed scholarship prizes worth N200 million for undergraduates and empowered 2,000 traders in the state with N50,000 each to support their businesses.

According to her, the programme is also providing support to elderly citizens, vulnerable groups and persons living with disabilities to improve their quality of life amid prevailing economic realities.

The First Lady thanked the traditional rulers and residents of Ekiti State for their continued support for President Tinubu and Governor Biodun Oyebanji, describing their loyalty as a source of encouragement for both leaders.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers and the Ogoga of Ikere Ekiti, Oba Adejimi Adu-Alagbado, commended Mrs Tinubu for her respect for traditional institutions and praised the humanitarian programmes of the Renewed Hope Initiative.

The monarch also reaffirmed the support of Ekiti traditional rulers for President Tinubu’s administration, applauding the reforms and policies being implemented to address Nigeria’s socio-economic and security challenges.

“We are proud of him. He is doing wonders and making us proud. Despite the challenges, we remain fully behind his administration,” the royal father said.
