Actress and producer Mercy Aigbe has recounted an encounter with a female producer who she said imposed strict conditions before offering her work.
Speaking at a recent event, Aigbe said the producer, whose identity she did not disclose, questioned her credentials and stated that she would only be considered for roles if she obtained permission before accepting other jobs.
Aigbe explained that during the call, the producer compared her to another actress and asked why she was being contacted.
She said she informed the producer that a production manager had reached out about a role but had not followed up, and that she was already on set in Ibadan filming another project.
“The woman was like, ‘ Who is Mercy? I don’t have time. Better introduce yourself properly, or else I will cut the phone. She said the only Mercy she knows is Mercy Johnson and asked why I was calling her. I told her that her production manager had called her about a job, but there was no follow-up. She asked me where I was, and I told her I was on set in Ibadan filming another movie, and she asked which permission I took to be filming another movie”, she said.
Recall that the actress marked 20 years in the industry weeks ago, reflecting on her career journey and noting that she remained active and evolving in her craft.
