Tributes Pour In as Ex-Ogun First Lady’s Mother, Chief Sabainah Opawole, Passes Away

Chief Mrs. Sabainah Ibironke Opawole (née Osoba), mother of former Ogun State First Lady, Mrs. Olufunke Daniel, has passed away at the age of 93.

According to a statement released by the Opawole and Daniel families, the respected matriarch died peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2026, following a brief illness.

Born on April 23, 1933, to Princess Mariam Ladigbolu of the renowned Ladigbolu royal family of Oyo Kingdom and the late Rev. O. Osoba of Olodo Village, Abeokuta, Chief Mrs. Opawole was celebrated for a life marked by faith, humility, compassion and an unwavering commitment to family values.

A devoted Christian and lifelong member of the Baptist Church, she was widely admired for her strong character and dedication to serving others. Her family described her as a woman whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including her daughter, Mrs. Olufunke Daniel, wife of former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

Since news of her passing emerged, condolences have continued to pour in from family members, friends, political associates and well-wishers across Ogun State and beyond, with many paying tribute to her exemplary life of faith, resilience and service.

The family said funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date and appealed for prayers and support as they mourn their beloved matriarch.
