Bala Mohammed Denies 2027 VP Speculation, Reaffirms Bauchi Senate Ambition

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has dismissed reports linking him to a proposed 2027 presidential ticket involving former President Goodluck Jonathan, describing the claims as unfounded and speculative.

The governor was reacting to widespread social media reports suggesting he was being considered as a running mate to Jonathan following the former president’s emergence as the presidential candidate of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Kabiru Turaki.

Jonathan was adopted as the faction’s presidential flag bearer during a special national convention held in Abuja on Saturday. Although the former president was absent from the event, his certificate of return was received on his behalf by Bayelsa lawmaker Fred Agbedi.

Speculation intensified after African Democratic Congress chieftain Nuhu Sada claimed in a post on X that Mohammed was being considered as Jonathan’s vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

However, in a response posted via his verified X account on Sunday, Mohammed firmly denied any involvement in such political calculations, stressing that his focus remains on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat.

“Thank you for your interest in my political aspirations. However, for the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM),” the governor stated.

He further urged members of the public to disregard reports suggesting he was pursuing a different political path.

“Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate,” he added.

Mohammed recently defected from the PDP to the Allied Peoples Movement amid ongoing leadership and internal crises within Nigeria’s main opposition party.

His latest clarification appears aimed at ending speculation over his political future while reaffirming his commitment to the Bauchi South senatorial race ahead of the 2027 elections.
