Buhari Didn’t Initially Want Tinubu as President, Says Dele Momodu

The media entrepreneur and politician made the claim during an interview on Nevon HQ, where he spoke about the political developments that preceded the election.
According to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Buhari and some senior officials in his administration were allegedly opposed to Tinubu’s emergence as president.
Momodu also alleged that the political disagreement within the Buhari administration contributed to the challenges faced by former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
He claimed that Emefiele, Buhari and former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, belonged to the same political group that did not support Tinubu’s presidential bid, creating tension within the government as the 2023 election approached.
Despite the alleged opposition, Momodu said Tinubu eventually won the election and became president, describing his emergence as destiny.
However, he criticised Tinubu’s performance in office, saying the president had failed to make the best use of the opportunity.
Momodu said, “In the last election, my information is that Buhari did not initially want Tinubu at all. That’s what led Emefiele into the crisis he found himself in because he, Buhari and the Attorney General (Malami), who is also having a crisis now, were in the same clique that didn’t want Tinubu, but somehow Tinubu is a child of destiny. I believe, whether positive or negative, I don’t know, because he has mismanaged that opportunity given to him by God.”
