Don Julio Shines at AMVCA 2026, Honours African Film Stars with Prestigious Awards

Premium tequila brand Don Julio stole the spotlight at the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, AMVCA, as headline sponsor, celebrating excellence, creativity and craftsmanship across Africa’s film and television industry.
The star-studded event, held in Lagos, gathered some of the continent’s biggest actors, filmmakers and entertainment personalities, with Don Julio unveiling “The Don’s Table” — a symbolic experience created to honour individuals whose dedication and consistency have defined their careers.
Inspired by the legacy of Don Julio González, the initiative recognised professionals whose years of commitment to their craft have earned them remarkable moments of recognition and success.
As part of its sponsorship, Don Julio backed three major award categories including Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Film of the Year.
Hosted by media personality Uti Nwachukwu, The Don’s Table emerged as one of the standout moments of the night, giving award winners an intimate platform to reflect on their journeys, sacrifices and achievements in the entertainment industry.
Actor Uzor Arukwe clinched the Best Actor award, receiving widespread applause from guests who described the recognition as well deserved.
Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman was honoured with the Best Supporting Actress award for her versatility, resilience and compelling performances on screen.
The Best Film of the Year award went to “My Father’s Shadow,” with filmmakers Funmbi Ogunbawo and Wale Davis praised for delivering a project many say highlights the growing global influence of African storytelling.
To mark the occasion, each winner received an engraved bottle of Don Julio 1942, symbolising recognition, legacy and excellence.
One of the memorable highlights of the evening was the Don Julio 1942 celebratory toast led by comedian and host Bovi Ugboma, who applauded creatives driving the future of African entertainment.
Don Julio also made a strong fashion statement on the AMVCA red carpet as actress Uche Montana dazzled guests in a custom-made outfit by Tubo founder, Tubo Bereni. Inspired by the rise of a phoenix, the design represented reinvention, ambition and strength.
