Liverpool Will Remain Among Europe’s Best’ — Arne Slot Bids Emotional Farewell After Anfield Exit

Former Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has penned an emotional farewell message to supporters following his departure from Anfield, expressing confidence that the club will continue to thrive among Europe’s elite despite his exit.
The Dutch tactician was dismissed on Saturday after spending just one season in charge, bringing an end to a tenure that saw him deliver Liverpool’s 20th league title before a disappointing follow-up campaign.
In an open letter to fans published by the Liverpool Echo and cited by PUNCH Online on Monday, Slot reflected on his time at the Merseyside club, thanking supporters for their unwavering loyalty and backing throughout his stay.
“I leave with complete confidence in what lies ahead. The players who have given so much to this club, who have upheld its values and helped create so many unforgettable moments, have built foundations that will endure,” Slot wrote.
The 47-year-old manager guided Liverpool to Premier League glory in his debut season, but struggled to maintain the same momentum in the following campaign as inconsistent performances and disappointing results across competitions ultimately led to his departure.
Despite the challenges, Slot highlighted securing UEFA Champions League qualification as one of the club’s major achievements.
“Securing Champions League football was an important responsibility and one that ensures Liverpool can continue competing at the highest level next season and beyond,” he stated.
The former Feyenoord boss also spoke fondly of the bond he developed with Liverpool supporters, describing the atmosphere at Anfield and the city’s passion for football as unforgettable.
“When I first stood beneath that sign in the Anfield tunnel, I knew what this club demanded. I leave knowing we never stopped striving for it,” he said.
Slot recalled winning the Premier League title in front of supporters as one of the most cherished moments of his managerial career.
“It was made even more meaningful because you got to enjoy it with us — singing our songs, cheering the goals. And on the day we lifted the trophy, you were there,” he added.
The Dutchman also paid tribute to the solidarity shown by the Liverpool community during difficult periods, including the passing of former forward Diogo Jota, describing the response from supporters as a testament to the club’s unique identity.
“The love, compassion and support shown by the Liverpool family was extraordinary. The connection we share goes beyond football,” he noted.
Concluding his message, Slot expressed pride in the achievements recorded during his time at the club and optimism that Liverpool would continue to achieve success in the years ahead.
“Liverpool’s 20th league title belongs to all of us and it will remain an important chapter in its history. Change is part of football, but I know that this club will continue to make its people proud,” he said.
