NDC Unveils Umeh, Nwoye, Onunkwo as Anambra Senatorial Candidates for 2027 Polls

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has produced its senatorial candidates for the 2027 general elections in Anambra State, with Senators Victor Umeh and Tony Nwoye, alongside businessman Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, emerging victorious in the party’s primary elections.
Umeh secured the party’s ticket for Anambra Central Senatorial District, while Nwoye clinched the nomination for Anambra North. Onunkwo emerged as the NDC candidate for Anambra South Senatorial District.
The candidates were elected during the party’s State and National Assembly primaries held across the state on Friday.
The exercise, conducted using the Option A4 voting system, commenced with the accreditation of registered party members before voting began later in the day. Party officials reported a strong turnout of members across the various voting centres.
In addition to the senatorial contests, the primaries also produced 11 candidates for the House of Representatives and 30 candidates for the Anambra State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking after the exercise, the Anambra State Chairman of the NDC, Ikem Uzoezie, commended party members and aspirants for maintaining peace throughout the process.
According to him, the conduct of the primaries demonstrated the party’s commitment to transparency, credibility and internal democracy.
“We congratulate all aspirants who emerged as candidates and those who did not. This was a great display of sportsmanship and maturity by all participants,” Uzoezie said.
Reacting on behalf of the successful candidates, Onunkwo expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the exercise and praised party members for their orderly behaviour.
He said the party’s candidates were united by a shared vision to advance the development of Anambra State and deliver quality representation to the people.
“We are happy with the peaceful process and salute our party members for conducting themselves responsibly.
“With the calibre of candidates our party has presented for the coming elections, Anambra is set to experience people-oriented representation that will take the state to greater heights,” Onunkwo stated.
The emergence of the candidates marks a significant step in the NDC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections as political activities gradually gather momentum across the country.
