Onanuga Dismisses Hunger Claims, Says Tinubu’s Policies Are Delivering Results

The Presidency has pushed back against claims of widespread hunger across Nigeria, insisting that citizens are already reaping the benefits of policies introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Tuesday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said ongoing infrastructure projects and economic interventions are beginning to make a positive impact on the lives of Nigerians.

Onanuga cited his recent journey from Ibadan to Lagos through Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu as an example of visible progress under the current administration. He said he was impressed by a newly constructed concrete road along the route, describing it as evidence of government efforts to improve infrastructure.

According to him, the upgraded road has enhanced transportation and reduced complaints from residents and road users in the area.

The presidential aide argued that such projects demonstrate the tangible benefits of government policies, stressing that improved infrastructure directly impacts citizens and businesses.

He also highlighted government-backed credit facilities for workers, noting that civil servants can now access loans at single-digit interest rates, which he described as a major relief for many households.

Onanuga maintained that assertions of widespread hunger in the country are exaggerated, saying his personal interactions with Nigerians do not reflect the level of hardship often portrayed in public discourse.

He recalled how narratives around hunger gained traction during the early days of the Tinubu administration, arguing that public perception has been shaped by assumptions rather than the realities experienced by many citizens.

Defending the government’s economic reforms, Onanuga further pointed to the significant increase in the national minimum wage, stating that workers’ earnings have improved considerably under the current administration.

His remarks come amid ongoing debates over rising living costs, inflation and the broader impact of economic reforms on Nigerians, with critics and supporters continuing to offer differing assessments of the administration’s performance.
