Princess Sabainah Opawole to Be Laid to Rest July 17 at 93

Princess Sabainah Ibironke Opawole (née Osoba), mother of former Ogun State First Lady Yeye Olufunke Daniel, will be buried on Friday, July 17, 2026, following her death at the age of 93.
The Opawole, Osoba and Daniel families announced the burial arrangements for the late matriarch, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2026, after a brief illness.
According to the family, a Wake Keep and Service of Songs will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Skyview Pavilion, Conference Hotels, Abeokuta, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The funeral rites will continue on Friday, July 17, with a Lying-in-State from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Ibara Baptist Church, Isale-Igbein, Abeokuta. This will be followed by the Funeral and Thanksgiving Service at 11:00 a.m. at the same church.
Born on April 23, 1933, Princess Opawole was the daughter of Princess Mariam Ladigbolu of the Ladigbolu royal family of Oyo Kingdom and the late Rev. O. Osoba of Olodo Village, Abeokuta.
She was a devoted Baptist and was widely known for her strong Christian faith, humility and dedication to her family and community.
Princess Opawole is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including former Ogun State First Lady Yeye Olufunke Daniel, wife of former Governor Gbenga Daniel.
Announcing the burial programme, Yeye Olufunke Daniel thanked God for the life of the deceased, describing her as a woman whose legacy and values would continue to inspire generations.
