Sule Lamido Urges Politicians to Shun Personal Attacks, Focus on Issues Ahead of 2027 Elections

Former Jigawa State Governor and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, has called on politicians preparing for the 2027 general elections to focus on issue-based campaigns rather than personal attacks.

Lamido made the appeal on Saturday while receiving PDP governorship candidates from Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Yobe states at his residence in Bamaina, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

He said political campaigns should centre on policies and solutions that address Nigeria’s challenges, noting that such an approach would promote national unity and sustainable development.

“We want to redirect and restore the culture of politics in terms of issues, not personalities,” Lamido said.

“We must remember that we are all Nigerians. We are citizens of this country, and we all love Nigeria. It is not about what someone did; it is about what you, as an individual or political party, will offer Nigerians.”

The former governor identified insecurity, education, the economy and corruption as key issues political parties should present practical solutions to during their campaigns.

“These are the issues we will be campaigning on so that when we form the government, it will truly be a government of the people,” he added.

Speaking during the visit, the PDP governorship candidate in Gombe State and former Minister of Communications, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, praised Lamido for his leadership, integrity and commitment to speaking the truth.

Pantami said the delegation visited the elder statesman to seek his advice, guidance and support as they prepare for the political activities leading to the 2027 elections.

According to him, Nigeria needs leaders like Lamido who stand with the people and have the courage to speak the truth regardless of the status or position of those involved.
