NIS suspends officers over extortion allegations along Lagos-Seme border

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has suspended comptrollers overseeing the Lagos-Seme border command following allegations of extortion. This action comes after online reports of widespread extortion by personnel along the Lagos-Seme border corridor.
The NIS has launched a thorough investigation to identify and discipline officers involved
In a related incident, the NIS had previously vowed to investigate allegations of extortion at the Seme border, where officers demanded N2 million from a Nigerian woman traveling to Mali. The service has a zero-tolerance policy for corruption and abuse of office
The Seme Border, which serves as a major transit point between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin, has long been under scrutiny regarding the conduct of security agencies.
The NIS has now pledged to reform its internal monitoring to restore its reputation.
