The Kano State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has deployed 1,889 personnel for a special week-long patrol operation ahead of the 2026 Eid El-Kabir celebrations to ensure safety on roads across the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Labaran, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, noting that the operation commenced on May 25 and would run until May 31, 2026.
According to the statement, the deployment comprises regular personnel and Special Marshals strategically positioned across Kano State to guarantee safer highways, improved traffic flow, and rapid emergency response during the festive period.
“The deployment of over 1,889 personnel comprising Regular and Special Marshals across the state will ensure safer roads, smooth traffic flow, and prompt emergency response services,” the statement read.
The FRSC explained that the operation forms part of its routine festive season strategy aimed at managing the expected surge in vehicular movement and traffic congestion along major highways during the Sallah celebrations.
Sector Commander Idris Lawal stated that the initiative was designed to reduce road crashes, fatalities, and traffic-related emergencies throughout the Eid festivities.
He revealed that the command had fully mobilised operational logistics and personnel for effective enforcement and monitoring at critical routes and accident-prone areas across the state.
Lawal added that the command deployed 24 patrol vehicles, four ambulances, one heavy-duty tow truck, two operational motorcycles, radar guns, breathalysers, and other traffic management equipment to strategic locations for swift intervention and operational efficiency.
The Sector Commander further directed all Unit Commanders and the 44 Local Government Station Officers to maintain aggressive visibility patrols and full operational coverage throughout the exercise.
According to him, the special patrol will target major traffic offences such as speeding, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, overloading, lane indiscipline, phone use while driving, operation of faulty vehicles, use of expired tyres, and passenger manifest violations.
To strengthen compliance with road safety regulations, the command disclosed that mobile courts would remain active across the state for the speedy prosecution of traffic offenders, while emergency rescue teams had been placed on maximum alert to respond promptly to distress situations.
The operations will run on a shift basis to ensure round-the-clock patrol and rescue activities along major highways and critical corridors, with dedicated night rescue teams stationed for emergency interventions.
The command urged motorists and road users to remain patient, disciplined, and law-abiding during the festive period by avoiding reckless driving and other unsafe road practices capable of endangering lives and property.
It also encouraged members of the public to cooperate with FRSC officials and utilise the Corps’ toll-free emergency number, 122, to report crashes, road obstructions, and traffic emergencies for immediate assistance.
While reassuring residents of its commitment to safer roads before, during, and after the celebrations, the FRSC wished Muslim faithful and residents of Kano State a peaceful, safe, and crash-free Eid El-Kabir celebration.
Eid El-Kabir, also known as Eid al-Adha or the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most important celebrations in Islam, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah before a ram was provided as a substitute.
