The Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, has assured residents across Nigeria’s North-East region of robust security arrangements ahead of the Eid El Kabir celebrations slated for Wednesday, May 28, 2026.

In a statement released on Monday by the Media Information Officer of OPHK, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the military disclosed that extensive security measures had been activated across the theatre to guarantee peaceful celebrations despite threats from remnants of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province.
The command also extended Eid greetings to Muslim faithful, expressing hopes for a peaceful and joyous celebration throughout the region.
According to the statement, intelligence reports indicated that insurgents could attempt isolated attacks on civilian targets during the festive period using suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices, especially in densely populated areas.
“Credible intelligence available to the command indicates the possibility of isolated attempts by remnant Boko Haram Terrorist and Islamic State West Africa Province elements to exploit the festive period to carry out attacks against civilian targets using suicide bombers and IEDs, particularly in areas of high population concentration,” the statement read.
However, OPHK assured residents that the threats had been anticipated and proactive countermeasures were already in place.
“The Theatre Command wishes to assure the public that these threats have been thoroughly anticipated,” it stated.
The military revealed that troops had been strategically deployed to critical and vulnerable locations across all sectors, while surveillance and intelligence operations had been intensified.
It added that security patrols had been strengthened in collaboration with sister security agencies, the Civilian Joint Task Force, and community vigilance groups to prevent any security breach during the celebrations.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant, avoid overcrowded gatherings where possible, and promptly report suspicious persons, objects, or movements to security agencies.
The command also advised citizens to hold Eid prayers and festivities within familiar neighbourhoods and remain cautious in public spaces such as markets, motor parks, banks, and prayer grounds.
OPHK further appealed to the public to cooperate with security operatives during patrols and screening exercises and avoid circulating unverified information capable of causing panic.
The military also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, media organisations, and community stakeholders to support security efforts through timely sharing of credible intelligence.
“Your cooperation with security forces remains invaluable to the success of ongoing operations,” the statement added.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the region, the command declared that troops remained fully prepared and determined to deny terrorists any operational freedom during the Eid celebrations.
