Arsenal Fans Flood London Streets to Celebrate Historic Premier League Triumph Despite Champions League Heartbreak

Tens of thousands of Arsenal supporters took over the streets of London on Sunday to celebrate the club’s long-awaited Premier League title, putting aside the disappointment of their painful UEFA Champions League final defeat just a day earlier.

Dressed in the club’s iconic red and white colours, jubilant fans lined roads across north London as players and coaching staff paraded the Premier League trophy aboard open-top buses, marking Arsenal’s first English top-flight title since 2004.

The festive atmosphere saw supporters waving flags, singing club chants, setting off flares, and climbing rooftops, trees, and traffic lights to catch a glimpse of their heroes led by manager Mikel Arteta.

The celebrations came less than 24 hours after Arsenal narrowly missed out on a historic double, losing to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties in the Champions League final in Budapest.

Despite the setback, fans remained proud of a season that ended a 22-year wait for league glory.

“I’ve waited a long time for this,” 67-year-old supporter Steven Turner told AFP while attending the parade with his daughter.

“I was disappointed and sad yesterday, but they played very well. I’m still very happy to be here and very proud of the team,” he said.

Arsenal were crowned Premier League champions on May 19 after Manchester City dropped points against Bournemouth, ending the Gunners’ three-year run as runners-up.

In Saturday’s Champions League final, Arsenal appeared on course for a famous victory after Kai Havertz opened the scoring early. However, PSG equalised through Ousmane Dembele’s penalty before prevailing in a dramatic shootout.

Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhaes missed from the spot as the French side retained their European crown.

For many supporters, however, the league title remained a moment worth celebrating.

Nick Randall, who travelled from Manchester with his partner and baby, described the occasion as overwhelming.

“We haven’t had a team like this for 15 years. Of course, yesterday was disappointing, but we’re Premier League champions and that means everything,” he said.

Another supporter, Williams Ayodeji, who grew up in Nigeria and travelled from Edinburgh for the parade, said the title victory was a dream come true.

“It’s been 22 years. I was a baby the last time Arsenal won the league. I love this team; they are part of my life,” he said.

The 36-year-old expressed hope that the club’s domestic success would serve as a stepping stone toward winning the Champions League in the future.

Sarah Ball, another fan at the parade, admitted shedding tears after the defeat in Budapest but said the season remained a source of pride.

“It would have been nice to win both trophies, but we’ve won the Premier League and that’s something special,” she said.

The parade, which began shortly after 2 p.m. local time, covered a nine-kilometre route around the Emirates Stadium area in Islington.

Four buses participated in the procession, including one carrying Arsenal Women, who captured the inaugural Women’s Champions Cup earlier this year, adding another reason for celebration among the club’s supporters.
