Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, has reiterated its ban on the operation and movement of commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, within its campus as part of efforts to strengthen security and ensure the safety of lives and property.

The institution’s management said the decision aligns with global best practices in campus security and safety management and has become necessary following a recent rise in cases of theft of Polytechnic property.

According to a statement issued by the Head of Public Relations and Protocol, Yemi Ajibola, the measure is also aimed at addressing growing security concerns, including reports of kidnapping and other criminal activities often linked to the use of motorcycles.

The Polytechnic recalled that it had previously prohibited the entry of motorcycles, as well as tinted and unmarked vehicles, into the campus. This directive has informed the intensified stop-and-search operations currently being conducted by the institution’s Security Unit at all entry and exit points.

The management urged staff, students, visitors, and members of the public to cooperate with security personnel to ensure strict compliance with the directive.

To ease transportation challenges within the campus, MAPOLY said approved tricycles and intra-campus cab services would continue to provide mobility for passengers from the institution’s main gate to various destinations within the campus.

Reaffirming its commitment to the welfare and security of the Polytechnic community, the management noted that the measure forms part of its broader repositioning and rebranding agenda aimed at creating a safer and more conducive learning environment.
