NAPS Ogun SLC Convention Produces New Leaders, Honours Student Advocates and Education Stakeholders

The 2026 Convention of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), Ogun State Student Liaison Council (SLC), has concluded with the emergence of a new leadership team and the recognition of individuals who have contributed significantly to student development and the growth of the association.

The convention, held in Isara, Ijebu area of Ogun State, brought together student leaders, stakeholders, representatives from the national headquarters, and delegates from tertiary institutions across the state to deliberate on issues affecting students’ welfare, leadership development, and institutional progress.

Ahead of the convention, the Student Union President of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Comrade Senator Afolabi Temitope, popularly known as Big Afo, inaugurated the Convention Planning Committee (CPC). Comrade Philip Oladele, also known as Code Doctor, was appointed Chairman of the convention, while Comrade Babalola Abiodun, popularly called Mario, served as the Convention Clerk.

As part of activities marking the event, deserving individuals were honoured for their outstanding service and contributions to the student community.

The Rector of Gateway Polytechnic received an Award of Excellence in recognition of his unwavering support for students, exemplary leadership, and commitment to the advancement of NAPS.

Similarly, Comrade Dotun Opaleye, widely known as Samora, was presented with an Award of Recognition for his dedication, selfless service, and invaluable contributions to the transformation of the National Association of Polytechnic Students.

Comrade Babalola Abiodun (Mario) also received an Award of Excellence from the National Vice President of NAPS, Comrade Clever Jay, in acknowledgement of his commitment and outstanding contributions to the development of the association at both state and national levels.

The convention also witnessed the announcement of appointments and electoral outcomes that produced a new set of officers to steer the affairs of the Ogun State Student Liaison Council.

Comrade Boluwatife Opatunmibi Joshua, popularly known as Lush, emerged as the Chairman-Elect of the NAPS Ogun State SLC, while Comrade Adetola Abayomi Daniel was elected Vice Chairman.

Other officers announced include Comrade Lawal Abdul-Gafar Ishola (Salaf) of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic as General Secretary, Comrade Shola Olaniyi as Financial Secretary, Comrade Obatuga Samson Adeyinka as Treasurer, Comrade Shomoye Olamilekan of DS Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic as Public Relations Officer, and Comrade Ayomide Timilehin (S-O-G) of Gateway ICT Polytechnic as Assistant General Secretary.

The newly constituted leadership was charged with the responsibility of protecting the interests of polytechnic students across Ogun State and promoting their welfare through effective representation and advocacy.

According to the convention’s communiqué, the council is expected to serve as a strong platform for students’ rights, educational advancement, leadership development, and constructive engagement with relevant stakeholders.

The convention ended with participants reaffirming their commitment to the ideals of service, integrity, unity, and excellence in advancing the interests of students within Ogun State and beyond.

The communiqué was signed by Comrade Balogun Taofeek, Chairman of the Communiqué Committee, and Comrade Andu Dauda Abayomi Olayemi (Captain), Secretary of the Convention Planning Committee.
