Cubana Chief Priest Claims Tinubu Distrusts Him Over Past Support for Peter Obi

2views

Socialite and businessman Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu still views him with suspicion because of his previous support for Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election.

Chief Priest, who currently serves as the Imo State Coordinator of the Pro-Tinubu City Boys Movement, made the remarks during a livestream session with popular streamer Peller.

In a video that surfaced online on Wednesday, the businessman spoke about what he described as lingering distrust from the presidency due to both his ethnic background and former political alignment.

According to him, President Tinubu allegedly “looks at him with one eye” because of his role in supporting Obi ahead of the 2023 elections.

Chief Priest explained that he later switched allegiance to Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress, saying he no longer wanted to remain on the losing side of Nigerian politics.

Speaking on Obi’s chances in the 2027 presidential race, the socialite dismissed the former Anambra State governor’s prospects, describing him as “not serious” while insisting that “serious people will win.”

The comments quickly generated reactions across social media, with critics accusing Chief Priest of political opportunism and questioning his loyalty to the Igbo cause. Others, however, defended his stance, describing it as a realistic reflection of Nigeria’s highly competitive political environment.

Chief Priest had openly supported Obi and the Labour Party during the buildup to the 2023 general election but has since aligned himself with Tinubu’s political camp.

The businessman recently obtained an APC primary form to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives but later withdrew from the race on the morning of the primary election last Saturday.
