Italian authorities have arrested two Nigerian nationals and three other foreign suspects in connection with the alleged abduction and rape of a Colombian tourist in Rome.

The suspects were identified as Isibor Wisdom, 29, and Paul Nwabueze, 39, both Nigerians. The others are Saidykhan Lamin, 29, and Karamba Kanteh, 38, both from Gambia, and Harouna Traore, 43, a Malian national.

According to reports, the incident began on May 19 when a 32-year-old Colombian woman was allegedly approached by a man outside a restaurant in Rome and offered hashish, a cannabis-derived substance.

Investigators said the man allegedly persuaded the woman to accompany him before she was transported to an abandoned building on the eastern outskirts of the Italian capital.

Authorities allege that the tourist was held captive at the location for three days, during which she was repeatedly sexually assaulted, drugged and threatened.

The woman reportedly managed to escape from the building before being discovered in a distressed condition by a passerby, who alerted emergency services.

Following the report, Italian police launched an investigation and subsequently raided the property, leading to the arrest of the five suspects.

The suspects have been charged with gang rape, with prosecutors citing the victim’s vulnerable condition as an aggravating factor.

All five remain in police custody pending further legal proceedings.

Italian authorities said investigations are continuing to identify and apprehend additional individuals believed to have been involved in the incident, including the man who allegedly lured the tourist away from the restaurant and the driver who transported her to the building.

The case has sparked renewed concern over the safety of tourists and vulnerable individuals, with law enforcement agencies pledging to pursue all those connected to the alleged crime.
