IGP Orders Tight Security Nationwide, Extends Eid-el-Kabir Greetings to Muslims

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has extended Eid-el-Kabir greetings to Muslims across Nigeria while directing enhanced security deployments nationwide to guarantee peaceful celebrations.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, the police chief reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting lives and property throughout the festive period.
“The Inspector-General joins all Nigerians in celebrating this auspicious occasion and prays for peace, unity, and prosperity for our great nation,” the statement read.
Disu ordered Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders across all state commands and the Federal Capital Territory to intensify proactive policing and strengthen security presence in strategic locations nationwide.
According to the statement, the security measures include the deployment of tactical squads, intelligence officers, and conventional police personnel to Eid prayer grounds, highways, motor parks, recreational centres, critical national assets, and other crowded public locations expected to witness heavy traffic during the celebrations.
The police also disclosed plans to boost visibility policing, coordinated patrols, surveillance operations, and intelligence-led stop-and-search activities aimed at preventing criminal acts and ensuring rapid response to threats.
The IGP urged Nigerians to remain security conscious and support law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information.
“Every Nigerian has a role to play in keeping our communities safe during this festive season. A timely report from a vigilant citizen can save lives,” he stated.
He further advised residents to promptly report suspicious individuals, unattended bags, unusual gatherings, or suspicious movements around Eid grounds, markets, motor parks, and other public spaces.
“Do not ignore suspicious activity. Do not assume someone else has already reported it. Your call is confidential and could prevent a tragedy,” the statement added.
The police released dedicated emergency lines for public use: 08057000001, 08057000002, 09133333785, and 09133333786.
While wishing Muslims a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Adha celebration, the IGP reassured Nigerians of the Force’s unwavering commitment to public safety and national security.
