Police Recover 119 AK-47 Ammunition Hidden Near Graveyard in Gombe

The Gombe State Police Command has recovered 119 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition concealed inside a sack along Kalshingi Road in Kwadon, located in Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of the state.
The recovery was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, who said the operation followed credible intelligence received by the Divisional Police Officer of Kwadon Division around 10:30am on May 19, 2026.
According to Abdullahi, security operatives were alerted to a suspicious white sack hidden beneath a tree opposite a graveyard along the road.
“Upon receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer promptly led a team of detectives to the scene where the sack was recovered and searched,” the statement read.
Items recovered from the sack included 119 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition, two empty ammunition packets, two bottles containing moringa seeds, and one green bag.
The police spokesperson disclosed that officers immediately launched a search operation in the surrounding bushes and nearby areas, but no suspect had been apprehended as of the time of filing this report.
He added that the command had intensified surveillance and monitoring efforts in the area as investigations continue to identify and arrest those linked to the concealed ammunition.
The Commissioner of Police, Bello Yahaya, commended residents for providing timely information and urged members of the public to remain security conscious.
He also appealed to citizens to continue supporting security agencies with credible intelligence to strengthen efforts aimed at protecting lives and property across the state.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Police Command recently arrested a suspected arms dealer during a sting operation in Dala Local Government Area, recovering three fabricated AK-47 rifles and other weapons from the suspect in Dandinshe Quarters.
